The Short Version
If your farm has slopes, orchards, or vine rows, the DJI Agras T50 is the better match. If you run large, flat grain fields and need maximum throughput with minimal logistical hassle, the XAG P100 Pro earns its place. Neither choice is obviously wrong — the terrain and crop type should make the decision for you.
Specifications That Actually Matter in the Field
Both aircraft weigh roughly 40 kg empty and require two people to operate safely. The differences show up in the details:
Tank and payload: The P100 Pro carries 50 L of spray liquid per load versus the T50's 40 L — a 25% advantage that translates directly into fewer refill stops on large paddocks. At 10 L/ha fungicide rates common in maize, that's five hectares versus four between fills.
Throughput: The T50 claims approximately 21 ha/hr in open-field conditions at 2 L/ha. The P100 Pro is documented at 15–19 ha/hr. On flat terrain, the P100's larger tank partly closes that gap at the end of the day.
Obstacle avoidance: The T50 runs dual phased-array radar (front and rear) plus binocular vision cameras. The P100 Pro uses a single 4D radar unit. In a maize block, the difference is academic. In a citrus orchard or a Winelands trellis system, it is not.
Slope handling: The T50 follows terrain up to 50° without pre-mapping. XAG's radar-based terrain follow is capable but less documented for extreme inclines. For KZN hillside cane or Limpopo macadamia blocks, this matters.
Portability: The P100 Pro folds to 893 × 1,095 × 345 mm. The T50 folds to 1,590 × 1,902 × 820 mm. The P100 fits into a standard bakkie canopy; the T50 needs a trailer or purpose-built vehicle. For contractors covering multiple farms in a day, this is a genuine operational advantage.

Vineyards and wine grapes (Cape Winelands): The T50. Steep slopes, trellised rows, and the need for consistent canopy penetration all favour the T50's dual radar and 50° terrain-follow capability. The finer droplet range (50–500 µm, six levels) also gives better fungicide coverage in the canopy than the P100's 60–400 µm range.
Citrus, macadamia, avocado (Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga): The T50. Three-dimensional obstacle avoidance around irregular canopies is not optional — a collision with a mature avocado tree at full spray load is an expensive afternoon.
Maize, wheat, sunflower (Free State, North West, Mpumalanga): The P100 Pro. Flat terrain removes the obstacle avoidance advantage; the larger tank and lower capital cost make it the practical choice for high-volume grain applications.
Sugarcane (KZN): Either works on flat cane blocks. The P100 Pro's portability is an advantage for contractors running between multiple growers. On variable KZN topography, the T50's terrain-follow is preferable.
Fleet operators: The T50 integrates with DJI SmartFarm for centralised mission management across multiple aircraft. If you are building a multi-drone contracting operation and need coordinated flight planning and data logging, the ecosystem matters.
The Economics

Both aircraft sit well above the 7 kg threshold that triggers the full SACAA commercial operator stack. You will need a UASOC (operating certificate for the business), an RPC (remote pilot certificate for each operator), SACAA drone registration, and a Pest Control Operator permit from DALRRD before a single commercial spray flight is legal.
Beyond the drone paperwork, the chemical you intend to spray must be registered for aerial application under Act 36 of 1947. Not all registered pesticides have aerial clearance — confirm with your agrochemical supplier before purchasing either aircraft.
